Introducing Ann McGovern, Director of People and Culture

Ms Ann McGovern sees teaching as not just the imparting of knowledge to young people but also the gaining of knowledge from year to year.

‘Every year there’s always something new to learn when you are a teacher’, she says.

As a lifelong teacher she is therefore a lifelong learner. And she has several university qualifications to show for it on top of years of experience in various teaching and leadership roles.

Ms McGovern has two Master’s degrees – in Educational Leadership (including several units on pastoral care) from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) and in Theology from Notre Dame. She undertook her Bachelor of Education degree at ACU and also has graduate certificates in Literacy Education (from the University of Sydney) and in Gifted Education from the University of NSW. She is qualified to teach Religion, English and History and she has considerable experience in HSC and NAPLAN marking.

At Santa Sabina Ms McGovern has been head of Pastoral Care and has taught Studies of Religion 1. She has looked after pastoral care issues and teams across both sides of The Boulevarde (our Secondary and Primary Campuses). She came to us from all-boys’ school Marist College North Shore where she was Director of Teaching and Learning, a holistic role which included pastoral care. She was also the mental health first aid officer working with parents, heads of departments and house coordinators.

Ms McGovern is also a firm advocate of taking time out from the everyday pressure of modern life, through physical exercise and taking ‘five to ten minutes of sunlight to breathe’. She loves Sydney’s coastal walks, with Clovelly to Bondi her favourite. Her weekends are also spent relaxing and recharging with family and friends.
