For 130 years, Santa Sabina College has educated students to achieve personal excellence, act with justice and compassion and embrace the future with an optimistic global vision. A key component of this holistic education is the provision of opportunities to develop fit and healthy young people with a strong focus on wellbeing. Recognising this priority, as well as our long sporting history and achievements, the College is proposing to revitalise our current sports facilities with the building of a new Sports Centre and Aquatic Centre on the Secondary Campus, as Phase 1 of our Master Plan. These exceptional sports facilities will also provide gathering spaces for up to 2000 people, benefitting our entire community.
Our new Sports Centre will include:
- a main hall with three indoor multipurpose sports courts, a stage and a storage area
- student and staff bathrooms and change rooms
- a covered promenade to connect the new Sports Centre and the 1967 Centenary Building
- a main entrance foyer, gym and sport offices
- a basement car park for up to 78 cars, including four accessible car spaces, to be accessed by a resurfaced laneway from Jersey Road
- a storage area, and lifts and stair access to the new Sports Centre
- landscaping.
Our new Aquatic Centre will include:
- a new 25m lap pool
- an amenity block and shaded bleachers for up to 250 children and spectators
- an outdoor seating area with shade umbrellas
- a reception office
- landscaping.
The new centres will replace some existing infrastructure, including:
- the outdoor sports courts
- the car park to the north and east of the existing pool, and the driveway from Jersey Road
- the pool and changing block
- Siena Hall in the longer term (after completion of the new Sports Centre).
Minimising potential impacts on our learning environment and neighbours
Santa Sabina College is committed to minimising any potential impacts associated with the construction and operation of the Sports Centre and Aquatic Centre, on our students, staff and neighbours; and to ensuring our learning environment is affected as little as possible.
We are working with a range of technical consultants to prepare a series of assessments and studies that will help us to understand the potential impacts associated with construction, and the ways these impacts can be mitigated.
