Weaving the Golden Thread

The 125th anniversary of Santa Sabina College was an occasion of great celebration and deep appreciation. While the richness of our history cannot be contained within the covers of any single book, we hope you are inspired by the 125 stories you will find here. They take us on a journey from the earliest history of Santa Sabina right up to the present day. The stories contain insights into the day to day life of students and staff against the backdrop of significant historical events such as the two world wars. The stories also reveal the impact of broader social and economic change on the Dominican sisters, staff and students. In the midst of change, however, the commitment to the pursuit of  ‘Veritas’ endures. Edward Schillebeeckx, the late Dominican theologian and scholar, describes a golden thread that ‘runs through the Dominican family story, from Dominic down to the present day’*. Throughout our 125 journey we have used the symbol of the golden thread to draw connections across history, generations and cultures as we give thanks to God for the gift of our treasured Santa Sabina.
