To top off what has been a great year on the golf course for Doey (Year 9) so far she starred at the NSW All School Golf Championships competing over 18 holes on Tuesday 6 May at Wentworth Falls and another 18 holes on Wednesday 7 May at Blackheath. She competed with a capacity field of 128 players all eager to shine and gain selection in the NSW team. In this Strokeplay tournament Doey, the reigning NSW Amateur champion, blitzed the field shooting 73-75 to win by 5 shots from CIS star Jessica Laskey. Doey also won the NSWCCC title from St. Francis Xavier Hamilton’s Chloe Pearce (82-84).
In the Matchplay tournament played on the 8-9 May Doey played well in her morning matches and won 6/5 with relatively easy. In the quarter finals Doey again prevailed after a close match the result 7/6. Doey was then paired against Coffs Harbour’s Amelia Grohin in the semi final. Again the match was close in the opening holes before Doey showed her class to beat the long hitting north coast player 5/4. The win qualified Doey for the final against 2013 state team member Chloe Goadby (CIS). In a high quality match with little between the two girls until the back nine. Standing on the 12th tee the match was all square until Doey won the 12th, 13th and 14th holes to set up a commanding lead. Chloe fought hard finally succumbing on the 16th where Doey triumphed with a 3/2 victory.
This completed a remarkable treble for Doey winning the NSWCCC Strokeplay Championships, the NSW All Schools Strokeplay Championships as well as the NSW All Schools Matchplay title.
Congratulations Doey you are a remarkable young athlete and we wish you every success as you continue to pursue you love of golf and particularly she represent Australia at the World Junior Championships later in the year.
