The children of Mary Bailey House, our Early Education Centre, have been inspired by Aboriginal artist Aunty Theresa Ardler, whose visit deepened their understanding of First Nations traditions and storytelling. Over recent months in anticipation of the visit, the children explored Aunty Theresa’s work through clay, watercolours, collage and more.
On the day of her visit, Aunty Theresa shared cultural knowledge, including the significance of the Gymea Lily, traditional tools and the role of animals in Aboriginal life. The children were immersed in hands-on experiences, from ochre face painting to dancing in the shape of a humpback whale.
This enriching experience fostered respect for diverse ways of being and strengthened the children’s connection to Aboriginal culture.
