Celebrating Joanna Wong’s Silver Medal in WriteOn 2025

We are thrilled to congratulate Joanna Wong (Year 2) on her outstanding achievement in the WriteOn 2025 competition, hosted annually by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Joanna was awarded a Silver Medal for her heartfelt and imaginative response to this year’s theme, “Could they be changing?”

Drawing inspiration from a butterfly she spotted in the school playground, Joanna wrote a moving piece about her journey from Hong Kong to Australia, beautifully capturing the emotions and transformation involved in such a significant change. Her work will be published in The Best of WriteOn 2025, and was even quoted in the introduction by Paul Martin, CEO of NESA – a remarkable honour.

Joanna attended the Awards Ceremony at the NSW State Library yesterday, followed by a writing workshop led by Nathan Luff, author of The Nerd Herd series. Reflecting on the experience, Joanna shared, “I learned the importance to be a reader-advocate, which requires rewrite, rewrite and rewrite.”

We are incredibly proud of Joanna and her creative spirit!
