Top public speaker

Congratulations to our competitors in the AHIGS Festival of Speech held in October 2019 and particularly to Preethika Mathan of Year 8 who won Junior Public Speaking. Preethika is therefore the top junior public speaker of independent girls’ schools across NSW

Preethika was required to give two speeches – one prepared and one impromptu.

Her prepared speech was on how VSCO girls and other environmental trends are actually hurting the environment rather than helping it. The topic she was given for her impromptu was ‘perfect timing’. She spoke passionately and persuasively about refugees and changes to the eligibility criteria of the Status Resolution Support Services (SRSS).

Our other Santa Sabina students in the competition run by the Association of Heads of Independent Girls’ Schools NSW included a fifth place for Bella Merlino of Year 9 in Junior Poetry. There was also a very good showing from Year 7 in the Drama section and Year 11 in Religious and Ethical Affairs.
