Our Young Archie finalist

Six-year-old Gina Choi of Year 1 has been recognised this year as a finalist for the Young Archie Award presented by the Art Gallery of NSW. Her work, My Friend Aiden, is currently on display at the gallery alongside all the other finalists. Winners of each age category will be announced on 10 August.

Gina reminds us to always take new risks and be open-minded in our learning. Her caption reads “Aiden is my best friend because we have fun together. We play together. He makes me laugh a lot. He is my special friend.”

The Young Archies portrait competition attracted more than 2100 entries this year. There are categories for 5–8-year-olds, 13–15-year-olds and 16–18-year-olds. The competition was judged by the Gallery’s community engagement manager and the guest judge – artist Marikit Santiago, herself an Archibald Prize finalist in 2016.

Congratulations Gina, a fantastic achievement!
