Announcement from College Board

I write to inform you that Dr Herrett has advised the College Board that she has decided to retire as Principal at the end of the 2019 school year. By that time, Dr Herrett will have served as our Principal for seven years and together with her previous nine years as Head of English and then Head of Curriculum, this makes a total of sixteen years of dedicated service to the College.

The choice by Dr Herrett of the time for her retirement aligns with the culmination of the College’s 125 Year celebrations and the first IB Diploma Programme cohort graduation. Dr Herrett sees this as an ideal time to retire from the College. There is still much for Dr Herrett to do until the end of 2019.

Dr Herrett has built on our proud history of delivering a Catholic Dominican education for girls and boys, transforming the way we look at what we can achieve. The passion and commitment that Dr Herrett has brought to Santa Sabina has led students, staff and families through exciting initiatives including the College’s authorisation as an IB World School, the extraordinary growth in our academic results, the leading Music program and partnerships, the growth and diversification in Sport, the introduction of a Prep year, an increase in enrolments, and the commencement of our first building works in over a decade.

Dr Herrett will leave a legacy of a robust learning culture and exceptional programs built on our strong Catholic Dominican tradition, with experienced staff delivering a revitalised strategic plan focussed on the care and development of our students. We have much to thank her for and she will be missed when the time comes. Dr Herrett is looking forward to spending more time with her children and grandchildren after leaving Santa Sabina.

The College Board has begun the important process of appointing a new Principal for the College, with advertising to commence in Term 4. We anticipate attracting significant interest from leaders keen to continue the development of our current path. Dr Herrett will ensure a smooth handover.

I look forward to joining you and all members of the College community in thanking Dr Herrett for her outstanding leadership and contribution to our history and our success. We will plan for appropriate ways to do this in 2019.
