Santa musicians around the world

Santa girls are making their mark musically around the world.

Former College Leader Michelle Mutyora (Class of 2016) is currently a contestant on The Voice, one of the highest rating shows on commercial television. You can view her singing a dazzling rendition of Beyonce’s Listen. At her blind audition she stunned the judges, three of whom “turned” – Boy George, Delta Goodrem and Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child. Kelly Rowland is now her coach and mentor.

The Santa Sabina community is watching The Voice with interest!

Singer Claire Burrell-McDonald (Class of 2009 and pictured below) performed with the choir at the Dawn Service at Gallipoli in front of Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and indeed the world on Anzac Day this week. You can watch the service on ABC iView until 25 May. As a member of The Choir of St James’ Claire also sang the St John Passion with our College choir at the City Recital Hall earlier this month.

Composer Elizabeth Younan (Class of 2011) has been winning prizes and scholarships for her classical compositions. She is working with renowned musicians while based at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Currently completing her Master’s degree, assisted by the prestigious and highly competitive Australian Postgraduate Award, she is being tutored by Carl Vine AO. Her work has been performed by Musica Viva, the Arcadia Quartet, the Goldner String Quartet among others. Last weekend saw the world premiere of her piece “Shoreditch Grind” and last month her fanfare for solo trumpet opened the International Women’s Day concert at the State Library of Victoria. She is a participant of the Sydney Conservatorium’s National Women’s Composers’ Development Program.
