Pillars Program

For 5 weeks this term, Year 10 students had the privilege to participate in the Santa Sabina Pillars course. It was a wonderful opportunity that enhanced our knowledge of the four pillars central to the Dominican tradition -Community, Learning, Service and Prayer. These pillars are crucial facets in shaping who we are as students, learners and leaders.

Each week, we would reflect on one pillar and a nominated speaker would meet with us. I was particularly moved by Cassandra Gibbs an Aboriginal Australian, who focused on the aspect of service. She was extremely inspiring, and her insight into the suffering of many aboriginals resonated with me, igniting my own greater value for service.

As Santa Sabina students we are blessed to be involved with and amongst a strong Dominican community, which has allowed us to grow deeply as learners, as individuals who serve the community and as students of faith. This pillars program challenged us, as humans, women and Dominicans, to always show respect and dignity to others. It reaffirmed, that as future leaders of this school and the broader community, we will at times, need to question the “status quo” and are called to stand up for what is right and just. We have the potential to drive change, make a difference and inspire others.

This course empowered us to seek truth, knowledge and justice through the core pillars of Community, Learning, Service and Prayer.
