Textiles students using innovative technologies

All our design students are encouraged to try new techniques and explore new technologies to enhance their creative designs. Recently our students worked with Ms Sukkar to explore the use of the Laser cutter, traditionally used with resistant materials such as wood and plastics to design and cut new fabric designs.

Laser cut fabrics are commonly used in the clothing and footwear industry so the opportunity to access and use this technology at school is advantageous for the students. The girls also develop skills in using industry software such as AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator to create and then specify accurately the dimensions of their designs to communicate with the laser cutter. We look forward to some creative applications of this Technology in the Textiles projects.
