History Accelerated

Opportunities here at Santa Sabina come and go. They are an endless outpouring of sport, drama, music, ensembles, art, design and decathlons. However, in this case it is an opportunity to expand our minds and take ourselves to the evolutions of the past. Our past, the Earth’s past and on a more larger scale, the universe’s past. In this specific subject we learn how to ‘past forward’ (A term created by a classmate), a term used to describe the act of determining our world’s future by studying the history of our past. This subject is History Accelerated, or in our own words “OPERATION S.U.H.A.G.L.E” (Sped Up History And Geography Learning Explosion). This course is a compressed syllabus of both the year 9 and 10 mandatory history and geography programme.

In ‘OPERATION S.U.H.A.G.L.E’ we are able to study particular thresholds in time that had completely revolutionised our world and had a major impact on modern society. We are currently studying the most important threshold that is the main contributing factor to our advanced and developed society that we are now living in. This threshold goes by the name ‘Collective Learning’. Collective learning is the evolution of human interaction, the breaking dawn of new technologies and the start of whole new era. Without collective learning we would not be able to communicate with each other as efficiently and effectively as we do right at this very moment.

Before collective learning there was a language barrier constricting us to share ideas in vivid detail and collaborate with networks of people, hence stopping our ability to create. Through this course we begin to develop ideas on our existence and the meaning of life. Why am I here typing this article at this very moment? These are the questions we learn to ask ourselves that bring us the answers we can use in the search of meaning and identity.

From the passion of the teacher to the enthusiasm and eagerness of the students this subject is definitely one of the best I’ve had!
