Solomon Islands Experience

In the July holidays, I took the opportunity to travel to the Solomon Islands with my family. Santa Sabina College is owned by the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Solomon Islands. In 1956 the Dominican Sisters of Australia established a mission in the Solomon Islands in conjunction with the Dominican Friars and lay volunteers.

The purpose of my visit, was to further develop our College’s connections with the Dominican Sisters in the Solomons and investigate the possibility of offering an immersion experience for students to visit the Solomons. Immersion experiences challenge students to engage with the realities of the world while reflecting on the values of human dignity and servant leadership.

We were met with a very generous and friendly welcome and certainly felt the global nature of the Dominican family, which transcends cultural differences. It was a most wonderful feeling of belonging, and companionship.
