Principal’s Update

Dear Families,

We are delighted to welcome back our ‘high achievers’ from Year 12 last year and celebrate their results at College Assembly on Thursday. Both our staff and students look forward to this occasion to acknowledge these young women, and to hear great inspirational messages that the current Year 12 will undoubtedly ‘soak up’.

The Middle and Secondary Swimming Carnival this week was a sea of colour as the Houses demonstrated their flair and spirit in costumes reflective of their different themes. It was a wonderful community event where effort, talent, and participation were all on display. Many thanks to Sue Wells and the Sports Department for an enjoyable and well-organised day.

The involvement of students in the broader life of the College through participation in music, sport, service and co-curricular opportunities is such an essential part of their education. It is not just about the acquisition of new skills, but also about expanding students’ friendship and social circles, balancing the demands of academic life, and building resilience.

As part of their education at Santa, the students’ involvement in the liturgical and spiritual life is integral. There are many opportunities for students to learn more about their Dominican heritage – through their curriculum, whole College celebrations, campus specific opportunities, and through the privilege that the presence of Dominican sisters on campus offers. It is impossible to summarise an 800 year old tradition in a paragraph, but we can say that it is a tradition of truth-seeking, discernment, engagement with the issues of the world, inspired by the spirit of the gospel. Our motto ‘Veritas’ (truth) is that of all Dominican schools, and reminds us that we are part of a much bigger community of Dominicans within and beyond Australia. That is indeed a privilege and a blessing.
