Night of the Notables

During Terms 2 and 3 we have engaged in a unit of work entitled “How do we respond to Human Rights issues?”

This unit of work has challenged our thinking, developed our organisational skills and has raised our awareness of some of the injustices that exist in our world.

We have recently culminated our unit of work with a very successful presentation, ‘Night of the Notables’. Each member of Year 5 researched a champion or agency of Human Rights and wrote a biography of the person or agency’s achievements.

We took this learning one step further when we presented as our notable or agency member to our Santa Sabina community, including; teachers, parents and our peers. The experience was hard work, enlightening and very rewarding. We are so proud of what we have achieved in our learning this term. We have exceeded our personal bests. We acknowledge and understand now why our teachers have such high expectations of our work and of us!

Throughout this time we also developed a major artwork to express our feeling or understanding of one or more of our human rights. The pieces were varied in style and messages. Each with a powerful meaning and interpretation expressed through our process diaries that accompanied the artwork.

We will continue to have our artworks displayed in our classroom and have been happy to share them with our peers and wider community. Our work has been met with impressive comments and great feedback.

We have included some images of both Night of the Notables and our major artworks. In the coming weeks we looks forward to reflecting on what we have learnt about ourselves as learners throughout this interesting and challenging unit of work
