DM Poetry in Pockets, Gardens and the Playground

Poetry has been chalked on the playground, planted in gardens and has overflowed from each child’s pocket -and imagination- as part of Santa Maria del Monte’s enthusiastic and creative celebration of Literacy and Numeracy Week. With topics ranging from ‘Horrendous Homework’, ‘Summer’, ‘Butterflies’ and ‘Brothers’ children have excitedly posted their entries into the competition mailbox and proudly recited their favourites. Numeracy skills have been a focus as well, with one class lining their poems up ‘perpendicular’ to each other. ‘I loved writing my poem on the playground – it’s about flowers; I wrote it with my new friend from Year 5!’ confided Isabel , excitedly pointing to her colourfully embellished poem.
