The children and staff from Santa Sabina’s Primary School, Santa Maria del Monte, have celebrated the joy of reading by dressing as their favourite book characters. ‘Old’ favourites such as Wally, Harry, Hermione and Madeline were joined by characters from the books shortlisted for the 2013 Children’s Book Council Awards which the children have been reading over the last months.
Extending the theme of ‘Reading Across the Universe’ to ‘Reading Across the Boulevarde’ the Primary School children worked with their buddies in different grades and with students from the Middle School and Secondary School campuses, sharing the reading of favourite books and related activities. The children also delighted the pre-schoolers at Mary Bailey House by sharing with them some new and humorous picture books.
Music was a further highlight of the day, with children busking in the Piazza to raise funds for Montebello, our Dominican sister-school in South Africa, while Musica Viva’s ‘Chambermaids’ Ensemble’ live performance was another delight to end the day.
