Senior Debaters Win Again!

Congratulations to our senior debaters who have won the CSDA Metropolitan Final once again.

This is an outstanding achievement for the Year 12 team, Emilia Anderson, Olivia Fehon, Katie Garsia and Anna Power, who have debated together since Year 7, taking out the title every year.

The Final was held last Friday evening (26 July) at Cerdon College Merrylands where we opposed the senior team from OLMC Parramatta. We argued the negative side of the challenging conceptual topic: Knowledge is Power. The adjudicators remarked on the exceptional manner, methodology and breadth of knowledge displayed in the debate, with examples as diverse as the Syrian conflict, the relaxation of economic sanctions against Mugabe’s government in Zimbabwe, working conditions in Bangladesh, censorship in China, Nazi Germany, the Vietnam War… It was a most impressive final debate. I am sure we will see these students competing at the national and international levels when they begin university debating and these skills will be of immense value in their future careers.

Many thanks to the supporters from our community who came along to the debate.

Well done debaters!
