Beyond Mars and Venus

“Some of the sloppiest, shoddiest, most biased, least reproducible, worst designed and most overinterpreted research in the history of science purports to provide biological explanations for differences between men and women.” (Smithsonian Institute)

Over 250 parents, teachers, educators and members of our local community were present for our Principal Dr Maree Herrett’s Beyond Mars and Venus presentation where she challenged many popular beliefs and busted myths on categorical gender differences.

During the presentation based on her doctoral research, Dr Herrett revealed the need to move beyond the notion of Mars and Venus to a world that allows students to have passion, interests, enquiring and discerning minds, be risk takers, knowledgeable and balanced in a world of rapid change regardless of gender.

The presentation was the first in a lecture series of exciting talks that will be held each term at the College. Stay tuned to twitter, our website and facebook for the next speaker in our series, another prominent researcher in their field, who will also challenge your ideas and push boundaries with views that are based on sound academic research.
