DM-Building Problem Solvers in Maths

Innovation at Santa Sabina College based on academic research in K-5 Mathematics

Mathematics Parent Workshop

On Tuesday 28 May, parents K-5 were invited to a mathematics workshop. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents to witness how students learn Maths through problem solving and investigation.

Kristen Tripet, Consultant in Mathematics K-6 and Numeracy at the AIS (Association of Independent Schools NSW) presented at the workshop and was impressed by the scope of mathematical learning at del Monte. In her role she visits many Primary schools across NSW and Kristen said “Santa Sabina College teachers are implementing the educational research and are eager to learn. There is innovation in K- 5 Mathematics based on sound academic research. Santa Sabina College is building thinking problem solvers in Mathematics. There is a gap between teachers and research based pedagogy and Santa Sabina College teachers are closing that gap. The focus has moved away from just building skills and towards thinking and learning in the classroom. Thinking produces learning.”
