Harmony Day

Many Stories – One Australia

With a splash of orange, the colour of the day, the College community came together with great enthusiasm on Thursday 21 March for Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect and coming together to celebrate our culturally diverse society. Here at Santa Sabina we celebrated Harmony Day with a week of experiences that culminated in a day of activities on Thursday for the whole P-12 community. Students from the del Monte campus joined the secondary students and spent the afternoon together. In House groups, students made friendship bracelets, played Connect 4 on iPads, created a harmony chain with stories and played with Chatterboxes.

Students then assembled in the Piazza to be entertained by a Cultural Parade and Talent Show. Lara, Hannah, Kate, Brigette and Teal from the Harmony Committee led the proceedings and introduced the parade which saw girls wearing Japanese traditional costume, Mauritian Sega dress, Norwegian National costume and Australian beach, bush and work wear. The community was then entertained by Indian, Spanish, Irish and Lebanese dancing.

Finally, Katie ended the amazing day by reminding us that we each have a unique story:

“Our stories make us unique, they are our identity- we embody our story. So If Australia is made up of people, and each person is a story, then in fact Australia is a vast network of stories. MANY STORIES, ONE AUSTRALIA. Everyone’s family and every individual have their own interpretation of what it means to be Australian. Together we bind this country, and it is our differences that ultimately come together to make Australia the great place where we all belong. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are, making up the pages of a bigger Australia.”
