Welcome to our New College Principal – Dr Maree Herrett

Dr Herrett comes to our College with significant experience in educational leadership. Dr Herrett was previously Head of Senior School, MLC Burwood and was a member of the Pre K-12 School Executive. Dr Herrett is a highly regarded educational leader and her academic qualifications include Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Sydney, a Master of Arts from the University of Western Sydney, and a PhD from the University of Sydney in the area of Gender Equity Policy and Practice in Australian Education. She has also completed the Principal Leadership Course at Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2006.

Dr Herrett is a passionate creative leader who has a willingness and ability to motivate staff in exciting new directions that improve learning outcomes for students. In her previous role, Dr Herrett established significant professional learning structures, promoted student and teacher voice, peer mediation programs and leadership teams at all levels. Most recently she has been developing innovative programs for students using technology, and restorative practices to create sustained change.

In 2010 Dr Herrett was inducted as a Fellow of the Australian College of Educational Leaders (ACEL) and was also awarded the ACEL NSW Leadership Award in recognition of the breadth and depth of her work in education.

Dr Herrett is no stranger to Santa Sabina College as she is an ex-student, College Leader, past parent and past staff member. During her time on staff, Dr Herrett held the positions’ of Director of Curriculum and Coordinator of Senior English.

Dr Herrett will be warmly welcomed by all the members of the Santa Sabina Community at the Opening Mass on 6 February, and is looking forward to commencing her term as College Principal with great excitement and commitment.
