Yr 6 Go Global on SKYPE

Year 6 students have made iPad movies to show their SKYPE friends in San Francisco some glimpses of their school.

The girls chat to the students from Kent School in San Francisco using SKYPE and have discovered the challenges of working out the time zones for the two classes to be able to meet ‘face to face’. They have exchanged questions about their favourite hobbies, sports, TV shows and subjects as well as swapping stories of life in their home cities.

They are writing ‘Spooky Stories’ together in pairs, using Edmodo and Google Docs to upload and exchange their writings. One benefit of this is the extra care they are taking with their writing because they have a ‘live’ audience.

One student from the class, Lily, visited Kent School while in the USA in the recent holidays and enjoyed a tour of the school and the chance to meet the students she had previously only viewed on the screen.
‘I love every aspect of this project!’ exclaimed one student. ‘Our learning is so exciting!’
