Private Music Tuition

All students are encouraged to learn an instrument. Our teachers are passionate in their belief that learning an instrument should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to explore their musical skill through learning an instrument of their choice, and experience the fun of playing in ensembles. Learning an instrument opens up many opportunities, such as performing in recitals, concerts, eisteddfods, and attending the annual Music Camp at Tallong Campus. To accommodate the needs of students, lessons are available for individual or group tuition and many instruments are also available for hire.

Choice of Instruments

The choice of which musical instrument to learn is a very important decision.

Santa Sabina College provides for the following instruments:

  • Cello
  • Double Bass
  • Flute

  • Oboe
  • Saxophone

  • Drum Kit
  • Guitar
  • Bass Guitar

Instrument Loan

The College owns a limited number of instruments, which are available for loan. These tend to be the more expensive and ‘colour’ instruments needed in music ensembles.

Parents hiring College instruments are responsible for:

  1. Maintaining the instrument in the condition in which it was initially hired; i.e. repairs, oiling, cleaning.
  2. Replacing the hired instrument if lost or damaged as a result of direct negligence by the student; e.g. leaving the instrument on a bus, or not storing an instrument at school using the security facility available.
  3. A term fee for hire of is provided by the business office, which will be included in the College fees.
  4. Ensuring that their House Contents/Personal Effects Insurance Policies cover the hired instrument.

Students hiring a College instrument must participate in the College Co-curricular Music Ensembles and special music functions within the College.

Students must purchase their own instrument after one year of hire. This enables other students to gain instrumental experience.

Commencement of Tuition

Tuition Fees

All tutors at Santa Sabina College are highly trained professionals. A half hour lesson cost is set by the Business Office.

Tuition Timetable

All private tuition is scheduled within school hours. Lessons are given within the hours of 7:30am – 4:00pm. Lesson times will be allocated to each student in collaboration with the relevant tutor.

Scholarships

Each year, the College offers Music scholarships. Students who show a keen interest in learning instruments required in the various ensembles are encouraged to audition. These scholarships assist financially with tuition fees. For further information regarding scholarships please speak with the Registrar.

Reports And Examinations

Students are given written reports from their tutor at the end of each semester. External examination opportunities are available to students wishing to enter examinations and/or competitions. You will be notified by your daughter’s instrumental or speech & drama tutor as to the suitability of such external examinations, or you may contact the tutor to discuss these options. Undertaking such examinations requires a clear agreement between the parents, the tutor and the student about the preparation required to complete it successfully. Enrolment in examinations is organised with the tutor.
