National underage cricket captain

Olivia Porter, a Year 10 Santa Sabina student, has been named captain of the Underage Female Cricket Australia XI playing in the November 2017 National Championships U18 in Canberra. She has also been marked on the program as a “talent to watch”.

“I was a bit overwhelmed when I got the phone call”, Olivia said.

“But I know it’s going to be a great experience. As team captain I feel I’ve got the responsibility for the younger players, for some of them it’s their first carnival”.

All-rounder Olivia has been captain of the Santa Sabina First 11 for the last two years, despite being one of the youngest players. She also plays in first grade for the Universities side, where she is the youngest team member by around 10 years.

At school Olivia also plays football, netball and touch. Her participation in cricket is year-round and involves training four nights a week for 3.5 hours each session.

Olivia has her sights set on playing for Australia in the future. She also wants to promote the sport for women, encouraging and helping younger girls to get involved in cricket.
