Year 10 Commerce Students Bring Business Ideas to Life at Market Day

Entrepreneurship, creativity and collaboration were on full display at Santa Sabina College’s Year 10 Commerce Market Day, where students transformed classroom learning into real-world business experience.

As part of their Commerce studies, students worked in teams to create and operate their own businesses, taking responsibility for everything from product development and marketing to sales and customer service. The market featured a diverse range of products and services enjoyed by the Santa Sabina community.

One of the most popular stalls was the Bouquet Bar, which sold handmade pipe-cleaner flowers.

‘Running the Bouquet Bar was one of the highlights of the day’, said Olivia. ‘We sold handmade flowers and let customers create their own bouquets, which proved really popular with students and teachers.’

Students were challenged to think creatively, respond to customer demand and put their business knowledge into practice in an authentic setting.

‘Our group sold customisable Altoid tins that combined everyday pocket necessities with trending products. It was a valuable opportunity to develop our business skills and put them into practice’, said Christiane and Una.

As an added outcome of the initiative, students raised $3,443, which has been donated to the Dominican Sisters’ Kopanang Community Trust, supporting women and families in South Africa.

The Market Day was a wonderful demonstration of student enterprise, innovation and social responsibility, showcasing the practical learning opportunities available through Commerce at Santa Sabina College.
