Santa Sabina Leads Music Education with Record-Breaking Australian Composers Day

Santa Sabina recently hosted our biggest Australian Composers Day yet, welcoming more than 330 delegates for a day celebrating creativity, collaboration and the future of music composition.

Students from across NSW came together under this year’s theme, #WhatWillYouSay, exploring how young composers can pursue technical mastery while grounding their work in authentic human expression.

We were thrilled to welcome Dr Maria Grenfell who flew to join us from Tasmania; the incomparable Alice Chance (whose work will feature at our Gala Concert on 23 June!), lining up alongside a live hip-hop performance by Luka Lesson – whose collaboration with Dr James Humberstone, AGAPI dropped to all streaming platforms as part of the festivities.

The afternoon was bursting with energy and with sparks of new ideas flying, as 11 full workshops were led by all star mentors Aija Draguns, Lucy Blomfield, Christine Pan and Oliver John Cameron, alongside longtime Santa collaborator Andrew Howes, and our own Jason de Wilde, Charlotte Leamon and Veronica Tsang.

We were grateful for the support of Limelight Magazine, the Australian Music Centre, 2MBS Fine Music Sydney and Turramurra Music Centre.

A special thank you to our Director of Music, Amy Richardson, for leading this remarkable celebration of young creative voices, and to all of our presenters, partners and supporters who helped make the day possible.
