Santa Sabina College’s talented VEX IQ Robotics teams have achieved outstanding success at the recent VEX IQ Robotics Competition, bringing home four major awards and securing a third-place overall finish against strong competition from schools across Sydney.
Held at Loreto Kirribilli on 14 August, the competition challenged students to apply their engineering, coding and problem-solving skills in this year’s game, Level Up. Teams were tasked with designing, building and programming robots capable of navigating a complex field featuring obstacles and multi-level goals.
In a remarkable achievement, all four Santa Sabina teams qualified for the final rounds of competition. Each team also received a prestigious award, earning the Judges Award, Build Award, Think Award and Design Award, recognising excellence in areas including innovation, robot construction, teamwork, problem-solving and the application of the engineering design process. One Santa Sabina team also achieved an impressive third-place overall finish.
The competition extended well beyond technical skills. Students maintained detailed engineering notebooks, presented their design thinking to judges, and collaborated with students from other schools, including Shore School, Reddam House, St Catherine’s School and Loreto Kirribilli. Throughout the day, participants demonstrated adaptability, resilience and effective communication while working under pressure to achieve the best possible outcomes.
These experiences reflect the strength of Santa Sabina’s Robotics and STEM programs, where students are encouraged to think critically, embrace innovation and develop the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. Through hands-on, real-world challenges, students build confidence in engineering, coding, collaboration and creative problem-solving while learning to work as part of a team.
