In 2019 Santa Sabina College celebrates 125 years of exceptional education.
Since 1894 we have grown from only seven schoolgirls taking lessons in Rosary Lodge to more than 1200 boys and girls from Prep to Year 12 on eight hectares of learning spaces on both sides of The Boulevarde. Today’s extensive campus also includes our Early Education Centre, Mary Bailey House, where 150 babies to four-year-olds begin their learning in the Dominican tradition. And our reach has grown to include our 87-hectare regional campus, Tallong, where all Santa students from Year 4 onwards experience our brilliant Outdoor Education program. Through this century and a quarter we have evolved and progressed and expanded but our commitment to Veritas – truth – has not waivered.
Our entire community – students, ex-students, parents, past parents, Dominican sisters, staff, past staff and local residents – have been invited to celebrate this significant milestone throughout 2019.
We are honouring the vision of our founding Dominican sisters and all those who have partnered with them over 125 years to bring the Dominican motto of Veritas to generations of students.
Despite changing contexts, Santa Sabina has always had a particular commitment to education for justice, scholarly inquiry, right relationships and personal excellence. What draws us together as a community are the many stories of the Dominican Order which begin with the story of Dominic Guzman in the 1200s. It is up to us to ensure that the story continues at Santa Sabina College as an enlivening and inspiring one. Dominican theologian Edward Schillebeeckx wrote that a golden thread runs through the Dominican family story from Dominic down to the present day.
During the year there will be events and other celebration opportunities for all members of our community, past and present, to join together for thanksgiving. We’ll be in regular contact with you all as to how you can get involved.
