Our youngest learners are supported to grow in confidence, form healthy relationships and develop the skills to manage their emotions. Each year level follows a carefully sequenced program, grounded in our Dominican values and delivered through play, reflection, guided practice and real-world application.
Students learn that they are part of a caring community where every person is valued. Through stories, conversations and shared experiences, children explore friendship, kindness, connections with others and caring for our common home. Activities include:
- respectful relationships
- building connections
- friendship skills and inclusion.
Across Prep to Year 4, students develop strategies to manage their emotions and understand their reactions. The Zones of Regulation are used consistently, helping children to:
- recognise feelings
- name emotions
- match reactions to the size of the problem
- build a personal ‘toolbox’ of calming strategies.
Students learn that emotions are normal and that everyone can use tools to return to a calm, ready-to-learn state.
Our friendship program, Friendology, teaches children how to make and keep friends, resolve conflict kindly and show empathy. Themes include:
- making new friends
- understanding feelings
- handling tricky situations
- showing kindness and respect
- managing friendship fires and misunderstandings.
This program grows with the students, helping them develop confidence, compassion and strong social skills.
Technology is introduced with care and guidance. Students learn how to use devices safely, protect personal information, and behave respectfully online. Units cover:
- passwords and device rules
- internet safety
- cyberbullying awareness
- responsible online behaviour.
Regular sessions are supported by visits from NSW Police Youth Liaison Officers and the eSafety Commission.
Wellbeing is woven throughout the program. Students practise gratitude, empathy and mindfulness, learning how to calm their bodies, notice their feelings and care for themselves and others. Themes include:
- resilience
- mindfulness
- hope and friendship
- humility and compassion.
Special days such as R U OK? Day and Bullying No Way! are part of our calendar, reinforcing positive behaviours.
Our approach ensures that each child grows in confidence, community and character. As they move from Prep to Year 4, students learn not just how to succeed at school, but how to be kind, strong and thoughtful people.
