Music is an integral part of learning in the Primary Years, fostering creativity, confidence and a lifelong love of music. Through a carefully sequenced program, students develop foundational musicianship skills while experiencing the joy of making music together.
Building Foundations Through Instrumental Learning
From Year 2, all students learn an instrument, beginning with violin or viola. This shared starting point ensures every child develops core skills in technique, listening and ensemble performance, while building discipline, perseverance and confidence through regular practice and performance.
Students may also access paid private instrumental lessons across a range of instruments, supporting individual interests and emerging talent.
Choirs
Singing plays a central role in Primary music, supporting vocal development, musical literacy and confidence.
- Laudare Singers – Years 1 and 2

Instrumental Ensembles
As students’ skills develop, they are encouraged to participate in ensemble music making, learning to collaborate, listen and perform as part of a group.
- Primary Years String Orchestra (audition)
- Primary Years Camerata String Ensemble (audition)
