Why Enrol at SSC?

  1. A Community that values Learning

Through our foundational story as a work of the Dominican Sisters we have a long standing commitment to the values of an education that is future-oriented, responsive to change and appreciative of the best educational traditions of the past.  Learning is encouraged in a community where the individuality of each child is respected.

  2. The Campuses

Santa Sabina College is made up of 6 campuses: Primary, Middle, Secondary, Early Education Centre (an Early Education Centre 0-5 years), Out of School Hours care and Tallong (an Outdoor & Retreat Cente) which is located in the Southern Highlands.  The college has extensive well maintained grounds and gardens and playing fields.  Buildings are a blend of heritage and modern.

  3. K-12 Continuity

In educating our students at Santa Sabina, we adopt a distinctive and holistic K-12 approach to the philosophy, planning, implementation and evaluation of classroom curriculum, assessment and reporting. We provide quality education in a caring and supportive Christian learning community, in which each student is challenged to achieve personal excellence.

  4. Diverse Curriculum

We promote the education of the whole person and encourage each student in the pursuit of personal excellence.  The K-12 curriculum is student-centred, dynamic, intellectually challenging and diverse.  Through training and professional learning opportunities a skilled teaching staff provides diverse strategies to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities within their classrooms. Outstanding academic results in the senior years demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach to learning.

  5. Wide choice of Co-Curricular

Whether the challenge is in the performance of music, drama or public speaking, or in meeting the demands of mountaineering, white-water rafting or surfing, or even in the solitude of creative writing or chess playing, the college community provides support which is skilled and experienced.
Santa Sabina also enjoys a reputation for excellence in sport, with individuals and teams regularly winning awards at local, regional, State and National levels. While weekend sport is not compulsory, our participation rate is consistently high.

  6. Transport Links

Santa Sabina College is located within a 5 minute walk of Strathfield station.  There is also an extensive bus network that services the area.  Two school specials service the College from the Drummoyne/Five Dock area and Earlwood.  Connex buses run a bus from Caringbah and Sutherland.  State Transit timetables are available at www.sydneybuses.nsw.gov.au or www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au or by phoning the Transport InfoLine on 131-500.

  7. Pastoral Care

Santa Sabina has a vertical house system which ensures students are involved with their peers as well as those in other years.  The homeroom teacher is the first point of contact and sees the students first thing every morning.  House Co-ordinators work with each house to ensure that the individual needs of the students are met and that an effective and relevant pastoral program is offered.  There are two full time school counsellors, one supporting the primary and middle school campuses and the other supporting the secondary campus.

  8. Religious formation and Spirituality

The Religious Education program at Santa Sabina College aims to build upon and extend students’ knowledge of the Catholic faith and tradition.  Students are challenged to respond through action within the college community, the Church and the wider community.  Through the Religious Education program, liturgical celebrations, prayer, Reflection Days and Outreach Days students are encouraged to participate and are challenged to respond through action within the College community, the Church and the wider community.

  9. Social Justice

The College has a particular commitment to the promotion of, and education for justice.  Working towards a just society requires teachers and students to critique and analyse injustices and to take their learning into the world in which they live and which our students will have a role in shaping. Outreach activities take place at an individual, group, house, year or campus level.  Senior students can choose to see the world from another perspective by taking part in immersion experiences.
