Gifted & Talented
Santa Sabina College acknowledges that individuals possess a variety of gifts and talents which enrich our community. The College provides diverse opportunities for members to aim for personal excellence in a supportive learning environment. We provide a dynamic, diverse and intellectually challenging curriculum in which we acknowledge, respect and respond to the gifts of individuals who perform at an advanced level or display the potential to do so. Gifted and talented individuals are encouraged to develop their potential and become autonomous, life-long learners who contribute to society.
- The College endorses and utilises systematic and consistent strategies to identify its gifted and talented students. We base our approach on Gagne's 2003 Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent.
- Classroom teachers seek to ensure that teaching and learning is student-centred and responsive to student needs.
- Students are encouraged to develop and share their potential responsibly.
- Staff are provided with opportunities for professional development to enable them to identify and respond appropriately to the needs of the gifted and talented. One example of this is the Mini COGE Certificate of Gifted Education, conducted for College staff by the renowned University of NSW GERRIC educator, Miraca Gross.
- The College encourages the involvement of parents and the wider community in identifying, enriching, extending and supporting the talents of gifted individuals.
- The College provides a range of enrichment, extension and acceleration programs for gifted and talented individuals as appropriate. These are in line with the Board of Studies' Guidelines for Accelerated Progression.
- The College creates structures and provides resources for the development and implementation of suitable programs which enable gifted members to develop their potential in a nurturing and supportive environment.
