Providing career advice

Careers Education is an integral part of the holistic development of the students at Santa Sabina College.  All Students have access to a Careers Coordinator who assists them with their research, decision-making and choices to fulfil their full potential and achieve balance in their lives.

  1. Year 10 students learn about the world of work, where to look for a job, how to write application letters and resumes as well as learning about their own strengths and weaknesses. Assistance is given to the students in relation to subject electives and post school choices.
  2. Year 11 have access to the Career Builder and Ozjac programs. A Careers Expo and Tertiary Awareness Day is held each year with all the Inner West Schools attending. Participants include universities, many private colleges,TAFE, Defence Force and industries.
  3. Year 12 students are interviewed and counselled individually regarding their application for tertiary studies to Universities,TAFE, private colleges, traineeships, cadetships, a gap year or work.
  4. Students are able to take up voluntary work experience in Years 10, 11 and 12.
  5. An Ex-students’ Networking night is held each year enabling all students to discuss with past students career paths that they may be interested in.
  6. The Careers Newsletter contains up to date information from Universities, TAFE, industry and other private providers and is emailed to all students in Years 10, 11 and 12. All back copies are accessible on the College Intranet.

Students have access to the Careers resources, the specialist Careers programs on the library network and the internet.  The resources available include a wide range of Career related materials, videos and DVDs, university handbooks, UAC guides, TAFE handbooks, Job Guides, information on private colleges and gap programs.
