At Santa Sabina College, a high value is placed on the skills of debating and public speaking.
The Primary School holds an annual in-house Public Speaking competition for students in Years 1-5 as part of the English program. The aim is to give all children the experience of preparing a short talk on a selected topic and presenting it to an audience.
The College debating activities are spread across a range of workshops, competitions and social debating within each Year group from Year 5 to Year 12. They include:
The Middle School and Secondary School are involved in social debating with St Gregory’s, St Ignatius Riverview, St Vincent’s and six other schools, whilst the Primary School and Middle School debate MLC and PLC.
Debating and Public Speaking thrives at the College with inter-house competitions held on the three campuses and an enthusiastic group of student leaders who support and encourage their peers to become involved. Approximately 200 students, 20 ex-students and 12 staff are involved in debating and/or public speaking at Santa Sabina.
