Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

The Mission of Santa Sabina College is to provide quality education in a caring and supportive Christian faith community. The value and the dignity of each individual is emphasised in an approach to the education of young people, which is holistic in nature. The promotion of self-esteem, self discipline, responsibility and leadership is central to this.

  • The Primary School Pastoral Care program aims to build a sense of connectedness, belonging and teamwork.  The program provides time for the school community to reflect and develop spiritually using mediation, quiet reflection, journal writing, sharing a story, listening to music and prayer.  Year Four and Five camp allows for a valuable bonding experience where relationships are developed.  School Assemblies are an opportunity for the whole community to come together to share gifts, talents and student achievements and celebrate birthdays. Parent workshops are held to deal with issues such as transition for new families and supporting student learning.
  • The Middle School Pastoral Care program allows for intellectual development and personal growth to occur in a stable, small community that promotes mutually respectful relationships with peers and teachers.  The program is extensive and seeks to support students to feel connected to the school community.  Some of the topics covered in the program include organisational skills, positive peer relations, student leadership, protective behaviours, resilience and friendships.  The Middle School camp has a strong pastoral focus and allows the students time to get to know each other and to build a strong relationship with their teacher.  Parents are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the Pastoral Care of students.
  • Pastoral Care in the Secondary school involves encouraging all students to achieve their personal best.  The students meet daily with a vertical Homeroom of students from Years 8-12 which allows for positive interaction and mentoring between students of all Year groups.  The focus of the program is on relationships, wellbeing, values education and skills for living.  The staff work together to ensure that students understand the Welfare and Behaviour guidelines and procedures in place to allow for a safe and caring environment.

Student Welfare and Behaviour guidelines are offered in the spirit of the College Mission Statement; to create a caring and supportive learning environment where individuals have every opportunity to develop their own talents and foster an acceptance and respect of the individuality of others.  Students are given the following guidelines and are aware of the sanctions that exist if the guidelines are not adhered to.
