Welcome to Santa Sabina College.
Santa Sabina College is located in Strathfield, Sydney Australia. It is an independent Catholic school, that welcomes boys from Kindergarten to Year 4 and girls from Kindergarten to Year 12. The College is comprised of the Primary School, the Middle School, the Secondary School, an Early Education Centre, an Outdoor Education and Retreat Centre and Before and After School Care. There are 1500 students enrolled at the College.
The Dominican Sisters, who founded the College and today still govern it, first came to Australia from Ireland on the sailing ship, the Martha Birnie in 1867. Having first settled in Maitland, they eventually bought the land on which the Secondary Campus now stands. The foundation stone was laid on March 25, 1893. The first six nuns arrived at Strathfield Station on January 9, 1894. They opened the school of Santa Sabina to seven day pupils on January 15, 1894.
Today, at Santa Sabina College respect for the dignity of each person is fundamental. We foster an environment in which each person is valued for who they are, and we seek to provide opportunities for the growth and development of each person’s self knowledge, self esteem, responsibility and self discipline. There are many opportunities to share, celebrate and grow in faith, and to experience God’s Kingdom and a sense of the sacred. The Religious Education program includes Liturgical celebrations, Prayer, Reflection Days and Retreats and students are encouraged to participate and respond as members of the College and Church community.
From Kindergarten to Year 12, our curriculum is student centred, dynamic, intellectually challenging and diverse. We aim to promote the education of the whole person and believe that learning is a life long process. In the Dominican tradition, we foster a love of learning for its own sake and believe that education empowers. Our education is future oriented and responsive to change. We believe it is important that students develop an understanding of other people and interdependence, and that they have opportunities to develop greater autonomy, personal judgement and responsibility.
Leadership is particularly nurtured and there are opportunities offered for student leadership on each campus of the College.
Education for Justice is an important aspect of the Dominican charism and it has a high priority at Santa Sabina College. We seek to challenge our students to respond through action to issues of injustice in our world. They are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways to support the marginalised and give witness to the Gospel values of love, compassion and service.
At Santa Sabina College we recognise that a great way to make friends is by being involved! There are a wide variety of co-curricular activities to facilitate this for our students, and participation is encouraged. We are involved in a variety of Public Speaking and Debating competitions, or students can go canyoning, surfing or camp by a river as part of the Outdoor Education Program.
Percussion bands and rock bands, orchestras and choirs - our students find a leisure, musical, cultural or sporting pursuit that they enjoy.
