Lessons from the innovators
On International Women’s Day 2018 our award-winning “young tech girl superheroes” presented at the Accenture conference “Creating a Culture of Equality” at the Sydney Hilton. Their session, “Lessons from the Innovators”, was the only session presented by school children at the conference.

Sophia from Year 8, one of the young presenters, writes:

Welcomed with VIP passes and ushered into the Hilton’s ballroom, the Tech Girls really did feel like superheroes. Earlier this month, the five students who participated in the “Tech Girls are Superheroes Movement” were able to present their app to the mentoring company, Accenture, on the International Women’s Day 2018.

As state winners, Eleora, Loredana, Klara, Victoria and I were invited to share our Koala Tracking App with the wider community. Our mentor was Daniella Di Santo, a tech guru from Accenture, and she led our panel discussion. We were joined by guest speakers including Ann Sherry AO and the inspirational Joanna Gavin. Overall, it was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our app and we were honoured to be there.

We are now in the process of submitting the app to the Technovation competition where the winners get to visit Google Headquarters in America. We are looking forward to finding out the results later in the year.

Many thanks to Ms Sukkar and Ms Rugiero for mentoring and assisting us throughout the experience. Many thanks also to Daniella Di Santa who met with us in the holidays and every Friday and gave up her time to help us every step of the way.
